Daybed

9000 seed pearls, the daybed easily symbolises our stubbornness. Marking, nailing, drilling and glueing, we worked the daybed, top to bottom and back again, over 40 000 times. The texture is surprisingly comfortable, giving a slight massage and release, like a bed of nails. The daybed is made out of old walnut that was not anymore in peak condition. The feet are burned hazelnut and chestnut. The top texture, beads of the daybed are made out of golden rain tree seeds (Koelreuteria paniculata). Picked in October 2021 from Vake park and the surrounding forest. The bench itself took about a month to finish. Each seedhole first needed to be marked, then prenailed, drilled and cleaned, then filled with glue, one by one with a syringe and finally the seeds were placed.  We discovered the seeds when going for a walk in Vake park. Since Ulla is a big walker and Nika finds it very boring, he is always searching for distraction by picking up random seeds from the ground and the trees. That's how we discovered the  golden rain trees’ strong and shiny, nearly black seeds and on the edge of the Soviet II World War memorial started cleaning them from their casings.
